Q:How would you feel, as vice president, about supporting an initiative to hire someone for TICA who’s entire responsibility is to get corporate sponsorships (think big!) to help clubs put on shows? Dr. Elsey’s is nice, but $500 is a drop in the bucket, and it’s a lot of work and paperwork for not much. |
A:I would support spending more for someone dedicated to this as well as social media promotion for all shows. One thing I'd look into if I were elected is the work flow in the EO. With so much work now being done directly by clients, are there any employees whose mission could be shifted to something like this? |
Q:What do you consider to be Tica’s greatest assets and it’s biggest hurdle? |
A: I think TICA's greatest assets are our genetic registry and our one
member one vote system. Our greatest challenge is our expansion from
a small "kitchen table" association to one that is truly
international in membership and scope. TFMS is HUGE! TOES is HUGE! I've been around since the beginning, and I'm here to tell you that you haven't lived until you have typed a catalog on mimeograph stencils and "printed" it on a hand cranked mimeograph machine. No one knew their placements until the regional shows. Expansion was stalled with our loss of ability to do shows in China, and with Covid. I feel strongly that we should work toward restoring our shows in China, and looking at additional countries in Asia. SSocial media is today's best way to bring visitors to our shows. I would support having TICA hire a dedicated social media employee who does nothing but promote upcoming shows - our competitor is pulling in huge gate revenues - there is no reason why our shows cannot do the same with proper promotion. The Cat Show App, once the bugs are ironed out will streamline clerking, and scoring. There is work to be done to encourage our existing, veteran clerks to use it. Clerking on a cell phone for older eyes can be difficult, as can limited cell/wifi service in some show halls. We may be using a hybrid approach for some time with ring clerks still using paper and only the MC able to use the app without connectivity. |
